March 2020. Opacimeters, anemometers, luminance meter and gas detectors.
The tunnel is located on Ruta 5 Norte about 150 kilometers north of the capital, Santiago de Chile. It is located between kilometers 127 and 132 approximately and connects the provinces of Quillota and Petorca, avoiding the 8.5 kilometer Melon slope and with 38 curves.
This section has a total length of approximately 5 kilometers, of which 2.5 correspond properly to the tunnel and the remaining length corresponds to its northern and southern access.
As part of its renovation process, a new adjoining tunnel will be built, which will be connected to the existing one by service galleries. Work is currently underway on the existing tunnel, upgrading the tunnel gauge and modernizing its ventilation equipment, lighting, and traffic management systems that control the operation of the tunnel.
This tunnel is equipped with opacimeters, anemometers and luminance meters, distributed by Durán Electrónica. Moreover, DURTOX detectors have also been installed, designed and manufactured by Durán Electrónica.
