February 2012. Air quality control, and CO and NO2 detection in tunnel
The new Ortega y Gasset – UASD tunnel, linking the José Ortega y Gasset avenue with the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo has just been inaugurated.
It has a length of 1.2 kilometers and two lanes, each of them 3.65 meters wide. This work is the first in its kind in the Dominican Republic and has seen an investment of more than 50 million dollars.
It includes a control center situated in the 27 de Febrero avenue, from which 13 surveillance video cameras are controlled, apart from the ventilation extractors and smoke detection equipment.
For CO and NO2 detection SONDELTOX detectors, manufactured by DURAN ELECTRONICA, are installed. And for air quality control, distributed equipment such as opacimeters are used.
