March 2011. Toxic and explosive gas detection in tunnel.
The new line between Chamartin station and the T-4 terminal will be 8.8 kms long. The opening of this line allows a direct connection between Chamartin train station and the T-4 terminal of the Madrid-Barajas International Airport.
Along the new route there will be three new local train service stations: Manoteras, Valdevebas and Barajas T-4. In total, more than 161.7 million euros have been assigned towards its construction. The new line will allow travelling time to the airport to be shortened. Thus, travelling time between the high speed train stations of Chamartin and Atocha, and the T-4 terminal of Madrid-Barajas airport will be of 10 and 24 minutes respectively. Also, the trip from Madrid city center (Puerta del Sol) to T-4 terminal will now take 22 minutes.
The new tunnel is protected by the EUROSONDELCO gas detection and measuring system, with carbon monoxide (CO) and oxygen (O2) detectors, and DURTEX detectors for explosive gases. All these have been designed and manufactured by DURAN ELECTRONICA.
